The Old Testament Preconditions of the Formation of Criminal Law of the Christian Civilization

The article considers the provisions of the Old Testament, formulated in the pre-Christian times with the features of criminal and legal nature. A number of conclusions were made whereof it was seen that in the 4th century monotheistic Christian doctrine, spread in the Eastern Roman Empire, enabled the reception of the Old Testament provisions of criminal and legal nature into secular criminal legislation, contributing to its development.
