The article raises the problem of ensuring legal regulation of relations in the economic sphere, taking into account the changes that have occurred in the 21st century: digitalization; the emergence of new threats to public well-being; the urgent need for economical use of resources and their restoration; the need for environmental safety of production and independence of the national economy from foreign resources/goods; the search of effective economic and legal investment mechanisms for the implementation of strategic projects and the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, etc. The aggravation of this problem is associated with the subsequent loss of validity (August 28, 2025) of the Commecial Code of Ukraine adopted in 2004, since the complex economic sphere of the country requires adequate regulation. The latter provides for the presence of a core act that should determine the basic principles of the functioning of this sphere and state economic policy, taking into account the current state of the economy and be a reference point for the legislator when adopting other acts that should regulate relations in the economic sphere of the entire country. The current state of legal support for the country's economic life is quite complex: a large array of regulatory legal acts of various legal force with often duplicative provisions; the absence of a core act adequate to the current state of the economy with its problems and objectives (delays in radically updating the Commecial Code were one of the reasons for its abolition); a full-scale war unleashed by the russian state against Ukraine and, accordingly, the legislator's focus on legal support for solving related problems. At the same time, legal regulation of the economic sphere, which corresponds to its current state and urgent tasks, requires the adoption of necessary measures aimed at ensuring a coherent system of economic legislation, the core of which can be the Economic Code of Ukraine. The development of such a code is a difficult task, since there are various options for codifying economic legislation in the world (the Commercial Code in France, the Trade Code in Germany, the Code of Economic Law in Belgium). This article is devoted to the justification of the codification option for improving the legal support of the current state of the economy of Ukraine, taking into account the current problems of society and using scientific methods of cognition
